Maker & Date: L.E. Smith Glass Company, Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, circa 1960–1975. This is not Kanawha. LE Smith has sharper points on the top. Kanawha has smoother more round points. There is a noticeable difference in the two. Both companies had similar molds.

Pattern: Moon & Star – a classic L.E. Smith pressed-glass design with alternating circular “moons” and raised “stars.”

Form & Size: Tall 11.25-inch ruffled trumpet vase with a sharply crimped flame-like rim.

Color & Glow: Traditional Amberina—rich ruby red shading to golden yellow at the base. Under long-wave UV, the base fluoresces a warm orange-green due to uranium content, while the upper ruby section remains dark.

This striking 11.25-inch vase embodies the bold sculptural style of mid-century American glass. The Moon & Star pattern’s celestial medallions create lively texture, while the sharply flared, flame-point ruffle elevates it from simple utility to sculptural art glass. Its Amberina coloration, achieved through precise reheating of gold-bearing glass, transitions from glowing yellow at the foot to deep ruby at the rim. Under UV light, the uranium-rich lower section emits a captivating neon glow, confirming authentic vintage composition.
