Details
Satsuma style moriage peacock vase with crackle glaze Chinese export decorative use only raised enamel and gilt decorative or functional vase
Identification
Small cabinet vase. Display or functional uses, this late 20th century (c. 1980s–1990s), Chinese export porcelain in Satsuma-style with moriage (raised enamel) and gilt. Cream ground with deliberate allover crackle and dotted neck, peacock and peony cartouche, sawtooth collar in teal and iron-red with gold.
Description
Richly hand-enameled and gilt peacock-and-peony vase in the Satsuma revival manner, with jeweled moriage dots that catch the light. The compact scale presents beautifully on a bookshelf or mantle or in the kitchen with flowers. Wooden stand is not included.
Historical notes
This is a modern homage to Japanese Satsuma ware. It shows a glazed porcelain foot, machine-even crackle, and the U.S. safety stamp—consistent with late-century Chinese export decorative production.
Condition
Very good decorative condition, uniform intentional crackle; typical minor gilt/enamel rubs and kiln specks to foot; no obvious chips or cracks noted.
