Antique 1903 Uranium Glass and Vaseline Glass Trumpet Vases Pair Octagonal Base Fluorescent Art Glass

IThis is a pair of antique trumpet vases, dated to circa 1903, produced in pressed pattern glass with octagonal bases and fluted rims. The taller vase is clear uranium-infused glass, while the shorter vase is a pale vaseline/uranium blend.

When exposed to a 395nm black light, the two pieces fluoresce differently:
The larger vase glows a vivid green, indicating stronger uranium content.
The smaller vase fluoresces in a softer violet-pink tone, showing lighter or mixed uranium oxide composition.

The combination of scalloped rim, paneled body, and stepped octagonal base is consistent with early American and English pressed pattern uranium glass made in the early 20th century, particularly during the 1900–1915 period when uranium oxide was commonly used as a colorant.

Uranium glass, often called vaseline glass in its yellow-green variant, was first popularized in the mid-19th century and remained fashionable through the early 20th century. By 1903, glassmakers in both the U.S. and England were experimenting with uranium content to achieve different effects under natural and artificial light. Collectors prize these pieces not only for their decorative quality but also for their unique fluorescence under UV light, which makes them stand out in both antique displays and modern interior design.
