Signed Mark Issenberg Studio Pottery Bowl – Textured Ash Glaze, Tripod Feet, Organic Form
This is a superb example of American studio pottery by Mark Issenberg (b. 1946), a highly respected Tennessee-based ceramic artist known for his ash-glazed stoneware and organic forms. The piece is:
• Hand-built and footed with an irregular, undulating rim
• Finished in a flowing earth-toned ash glaze with a textured interior surface
• Signed on the base with an incised “Mark Issenberg” signature
• Accompanied by two impressed studio stamps: one featuring a monogram (possibly “MI”) and a spiral or stylized glyph
• Measures approx. 12 inches in diameter (see ruler image)
The bowl sits on three sculpted feet and features textured crawling glazes and lava-like drip effects, hallmark characteristics of Issenberg’s mid-to-late 20th-century functional and sculptural work.
This ceramic bowl is an original hand-built work by Mark Issenberg, a Tennessee-based studio potter whose work spans over 50 years. The incised signature has been confirmed through visual analysis and comparison to known works by the artist. The bowl exhibits Issenberg’s signature glazing style and footed organic forms, consistent with his work from the 1980s–1990s. The presence of two impressed marks further confirms its studio origin. No chips, cracks, or repairs noted. This is a highly collectible and display-worthy piece of American craft
